FAQ

Questions/Answers about your order, our products, etc.,
or everything you want to know about vortreportrait.fr without having to ask :)

And, because beautiful photos mean more than words, here are a few samples of our creations in video: here for the pop art portrait and here for the mosaic photo portrait. See for yourself the care we take in bringing out your pop, street, comic spirit or in enhancing your souvenir photos.

1) About the order process on the website

- How to find out about all the available colours and sizes for a piece of pop art?

> Go to the left-hand menu and select a pop art portrait category, then browse the categories selecting the number of boxes and the number of combined faces. This will lead you to the list of possible colours for the chosen option. Click on the product file corresponding to the desired colour and then, at the end of the sheet, you will see a menu presenting the different options, including sizes and prices.

- What does “number of faces” mean?

> For example, if you want a piece of pop art with the photo of your two children, your husband and yourself, this means 4 different faces to be worked on by our graphic artists. Therefore, you should select “4 faces”. In the case of “2 faces”, the 2 different faces will be alternated.

- How to find out about available sizes for a photo mosaic?

> Go to the left-hand menu and select “mosaic portrait” then click on the type of mosaic desired. At the end of the sheet, you will see a menu presenting the different options, including sizes and prices.

- What size do you recommend for a photo mosaic?

> In our opinion, on photo paper, the 70x100cm format is really ideal because it allows you to see the faces and the small pictures well. This means that it is possible to add more small pictures to define faces and that the small pictures are larger and, therefore, easier to see (about 1.5x2,5cm).
> On canvas, the largest format is impressive, but, that’s our opinion :)

- How do I send my photos?

> If you want to create a personalised portrait (excluding mosaics): just send your photo to our email address after placing your order: contact@your-portrait.co.uk . You can also send it to us before placing your order: we will tell you what we think about the quality.

> If you want to create a mosaic portrait: click on the “send photos” button at the top of our website page. You will see step-by-step information for preparing your photos and transferring them to our file server.

- I’ve added the portrait I want to my shopping cart, what should I do now?

> You have the choice of creating an account, which is the easiest solution if you want to send us a new order at a later date and track the progress of your orders. You can also choose to enter your contact details just for this order.

- Is it possible to enter a different delivery address?

> Yes, this is possible. Just click on “change delivery address” on the delivery method selection page.

- What option do you recommend for delivery?

> We offer two delivery methods on our website: post or chronopost. By post, estimated delivery time is 4-5 days (20 €), by chronopost, estimated delivery time is 2-3 days (40 €). Choose the delivery method according to your needs. For every order sent, we will forward the tracking number to you so that you can monitor progress of your parcel

- Hmmm! I don’t like using my credit card on the Internet. Is it secure?

> No worries: as soon as you start the order process, you are in a secure area. All the data is encrypted using a SSL key which means that it is not possible for people outside the website (e.g. a hacker) to retrieve the data. You can see this by the small padlock displayed on your Web browser. Credit card payment is the easiest and fastest method for confirming your order. However, you can opt for sending a cheque, but we will only start work on your portrait once the cheque has been received. You may also opt to pay by telephone (in this case, we will call you so that you can provide us with your credit card number for direct payment on our credit card terminal) or by Paypal.

- I’ve paid by Paypal but I haven’t received a confirmation receipt. Is this normal?

> No, this isn’t normal, but it’s probably because you forgot to click on the “back to the store” link after your Paypal payment. If this is the case, the order will not have been sent to our server. This is not a problem. Send us an email and we will confirm your order.

2) About the management of your order

- I’ve sent my photos. What happens now?

> If your photos are suitable, everything is fine and we will start the creation process. If your photos are not suitable, for example in terms of their quality (or if we have a concern about the layout), we will contact you very quickly by email or telephone.

- Will I be informed when my order is sent and can I track it?

> Yes, as soon as your order leaves our workshop you will receive an email with the tracking number as well as a preview of the creation.

- The estimated time for postal delivery has passed and I still don’t have my parcel. What should I do?

> If you have not received your parcel in time for an event or if you are planning on offering the portrait as a gift, a temporary solution is available: call us and we will send you a preview in a higher resolution. In this way, you will be able to print it and add the words “gift voucher”. The parcel should arrive soon... sometimes there are delays with the post.

- I would like to change a photo during creation. Is this possible?

> Yes, it’s possible, but it’s not free. As soon as the photo you have selected is validated, our graphic artist will start the creation. Good results take time. It is possible to request a preview before printing and to make adjustments, but if you want to start again with a different photo, you will have to pay €25 for creation fees.

3) About personalising the product

- I would like to produce a piece of pop art with a photo of a couple.

> It's possible. In this case make sure to choose the option « 2 faces » or couple photo (surcharge of €25). Indeed, working on two heads on a photo makes twice as much work.

- I would like to write something at the bottom of the portrait.

> We can print words if you want (e.g. happy birthday). In this case, please indicate the colour, font, and approximate height of the characters. We can print the text directly on the picture or on an opaque or transparent strip.

- On the cartoon or street art portrait, is it possible to add personalised text?

> Yes, it’s possible and it’s even designed for this purpose! For the cartoon portrait, enter the text you want to display in the bubble in your order’s comments box. For street art portraits, enter the name or the text to write in graffiti on your portrait in your order’s comments box.

- I would like to see a preview of the creation before printing.

> This is what we call the final proof. We can send you a preview for your approval before printing. In this case, please inform us in your order’s comments box. In order that we don’t spend too much time re-editing, please be as precise as possible with comments (e.g. I would like red eyebrows, fewer wrinkles, etc.). Also, don’t forget that the pop art portrait is an artistic creation and that there will always be differences with the original photo. Finally, the overall result is often more impressive when printed, whereas when you see it on screen you tend to focus on small details: often you feel different when you see the final product.

4) About the choice of photos for pop art

- My photo is blurred, is that a problem?

> Yes, it’s probably a problem for your portrait ;-) If you have a doubt, send us the photo and we’ll tell you what we think. Read this short text for advice about the choice of photos.

- I have a photo with lots of shadow on the face, will it work?

> It may not be any good because shadow is a problem when highlighting facial features. If you have a doubt, we will be able to tell you what we think.

- My photo seems to be very small (a few dozen Kb), is that alright?

> For an attractive creation, you will need a photo with a high enough resolution, at least 3 million pixels. If you have a doubt, send us the photo and we will advise you.

- On the photo, the head is sometimes slightly cropped. Is it serious doctor?

> It depends on where it is cropped. If we are going to have to recreate a large part of the hair, ears or chest, it might not be possible because we don’t know what the person looks like and, above all, it takes too long. If it is only slightly cropped or if you are not worried about keeping it as it is, it may be possible. Contact us for details.

5) About the choice of photos for a mosaic

- I can’t decide which photo to use for the main photo.

> Our advice for an attractive mosaic: choose a main photo in which the faces are relatively large so that the detail is more visible. Also, you will need a photo with relatively varied colours and try to avoid large areas of even colour. It’s very hard, even impossible, to create a mosaic with faces on a black background.

- Do you have any advice for choosing the small photos?

> Principle 1: the more there are, the better it is because there will be more variety in the shapes and colours, and there will also be less repetition. If you have 1,000 photos, that’s perfect (however, the maximum limit is 1,500)! 200 is borderline.

> Principle 2: it’s best if the colours are varied and the faces are not too dark. e.g: if the photo background is the sea, you will need plenty of bluish photos. For a highly successful mosaic, we recommend that you spend a little time preparing your photos by following our step-by-step instructions. For this, click on “Send your photos” at the top of our site

6) About the mosaic’s final result

- Are the colours in the original photo respected?

> Generally yes, but the mosaic is an artistic interpretation, therefore, the colours are slightly different, especially for areas of even colour which will be recreated with more varied colours. Sometimes black becomes lighter and white becomes darker.

- Will there be a lot of picture repeats?

> The fewer photos you provide the more repeats there will be, even if we compensate for this slightly by taking extracts from your pictures. For example, if you provide us with 200 pictures and the final mosaic contains 3,000... there will be quite a lot of repeats. Also, even if we have a lot of pictures, there will still be some repeats, especially for areas of even colour or when there are continuous lines, but don’t worry: this will not affect the overall result.

- Will the facial features be visible on the photo?

> You will recognise the faces if you stand back from the mosaic because when close-up you will mainly see the small pictures. Don’t expect to have completely sharp faces and to see all their features because the mosaic is an artistic interpretation and you must not forget that it is made up of small photos. However, the overall effect is impressive, with the mosaic concept not just simply meaning printing a photo on canvas, but involving much more. Just take a look at some of our samples and see the quality of our mosaics for yourself.

7) About dispatching

- Are the portraits protected well for dispatching?

> Yes, our packaging is designed to prevent damage. However, if the parcel has been damaged, please inform the delivery person and ask him to return it to us. As soon as we receive it, we will send it to you again.

- What to do if the parcel is damaged?

> About damaged parcels (this is rare): We always check our parcels to ensure that they leave our workshop in perfect condition and that they are sturdy enough. However, do inspect it carefully as soon as you receive it in order to be certain that it has not been damaged during transport. If this is the case, inform the delivery person and refuse the parcel. In this way, we will be able to deal with the problem as quickly as possible. If you do not express your concerns, you will be asked to participate in our reprinting and redelivery costs.

- How are the photo paper portraits delivered?

> Paper photo portraits are rolled in a transparent tube. It is a genuinely elegant gift: gift wrapping is optional.
